I won the Sir Patrick Geddes Memorial Trust Award for Category 2B, best postgraduate dissertation for my Masters dissertation on Robert Moyes Adam!!!!! Not only will it look good on my CV but I also get some cash...100 quid! Woohooo. Maybe I do have a shot at a career in academia. Just maybe.
There is also a big award ceremony thats going to be held off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh by the Scottish Executive and my prof. and I have been invited. If my parents help me with the plan ticket I will be very tempted to go and accept my award and bug all my British friends. Any excuse to go back to Scotland!
SOOOOOOOO excited!

Congratulations! Though I don't know who Robert Moyes Adam is, and because I agree with Stephen Colbert that we all do a little too much thinking with our heads and not enough knowing with your hearts, I refuse to research it. Still, excellent work, and I hope you make it back for the ceremony!
Thank you! I would think though that since your job is sooooo boring that you would take great pleasure in looking up RMA not only because it is more interesting than your job but because you would be rebeling against your job by not working. But Colbert does bring up an interesting point. Tough dilemma. James Dean v. truthiness.
I broke down and looked it up. I'm not sure if I'll ever forgive myself.
I see there is a special collection of his things at St. Andrews. I hope you didn't give the librarian too much trouble, but I suspect you did. Damn researchers...
I won't tell Colbert.
As for the librarians, they are a pretty weird lots at St. Andrews. They are all women on average over 55 (there was one very metrosexual looking man but I don't think he did anything but check books out for people. I did most of my research on my own. They gave me a few leads but they actually didn't know very much about him and were pretty much indifferent. The lady at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh Library was much more helpful and was so interested in what I was doing asked me to send her a copy of my dissertation.
I could go on....but you are probably bored and cursing researchers again. Is there anything at your library that is interesting and worth researching?
That actually pisses me off a little about the unhelpful librarians. It's why we have a bad rap. Also because we hate you.
"Is there anything at your library that is interesting and worth researching?"
Other than me? No.
I just added your question to my FAQ, because, frankly, being asked a question once is as frequent as it gets with me.
Wow! I am so honored I was included in your blog entry. And you didn't make me cry. Only mocked. =)
That's too bad your library is so boring. It must get really tedious when people just ask after you knowing you are the only interesting one there. I might have to visit someday to confirm this.
Well off to work. My head hurts. And not from any expected intellectual stimulation or challenge.
Please don't come to my office. I would hate for you to see my ignominy. But we can get a mojito down the street.
Man, I would kill for a mojito right now.
I've never had a mojito before. I am sure, out there in Buttown GA Julie is crying. It was her mission to learn me real good with regard to alcoholic beverages. I have obviously failed her .
Kinda sounds like a girly drink.
BURN!
Actually it's worse than a girly drink. It's a Cuban drink.
DOUBLE BURN!
CONGRATULATIONS, MARION!!! YOU RULE!!!
frisbee scares me!
